As the head coach of Manhattan’s New York Knicks, the 9/11 anniversary is close to Derek Fisher’s heart.

So this past Friday, on the 14th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and injured countless others, Coach Fish did what he could to give back.

Derek, along with numerous other celebrities, participated in the Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners Charity Day to commemorate the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald employees and 61 Euro Brokers employees who lost their lives on that tragic day in 2011.

“With New York being home, anything I can do to participate in anything that could possibly impact people’s lives in a positive way, especially first responders and families here, (I’d do it). This is a special, important day,” Fisher said.

Fisher was joined by Knicks assistant general manager Allan Houston, and the two were among many celebrities manning the phones and completing transactions to raise money. Every year on Sept. 11, Cantor Fitzgerald donates 100 percent of its revenue to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund. Since its inception three days after the attacks, it has raised more than $113 million, including approximately $12 million this year.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families that lost loved ones as well as those that survived and the first responders who sacrificed their health and safety for others,” Derek said.
